"Old" McDonald Magic Show & an ankle update

This past Thursday the Ronald McDonald Magic show (Old McDonald's, as my boys call it) was at Hunter's pre-school. Parents and younger siblings were invited as well. I thought it would be fun to take TJ.
I made TJ a hat for Christmas and we don't leave the house without it. "Old McDonald" kept calling TJ Frank Sinatra and saying "Singing in the Rain". TJ didn't find it funny but at least he gave me a cute smile for the picture. When Hunter's class came into the gym, Hunter boy ran straight for TJ and I. We gave him a kiss, but I told him he should sit with his friends from school and we would see him afterwards. It was good plan since TJ wasn't too impressed with the show. He needed a drink and to go potty several times. Hunter thought it was great! He has a habit of sucking on his fingers when he is excited. Of course my phone camera doesn't take the best pictures, but at least you get the idea.
Ronald put on an okay show, the last 20 minutes was great and the kids loved it. I think he spent too much time at the beginning talking so the kids weren't too interested until he pulled out the balloons at the end. He had a great message about reading books and Hunter had a great time so I guess that is all that matters.
So about my ankle . . .

I called my OB's office because Troy has been freaking out about the swelling, insisting it was my heart. Deb, my doctor's nurse, just chuckled as she listened to my story. Basically it is a stress pocket, I have irritated my ankle enough and once it's ready to heal the swelling will go down, could take four to six months to heal, all depending on my body. The brace really wasn't doing anything, my ankle was still swollen at night so I took the damn thing off. After the orthapedic surgeon had tried everything to get the swelling to go down, he would have come to the same conclusion Deb said, different mind sets I guess. So lesson learned, call Deb first, when something is wrong before we fork out hundreds of dollars to have someone else try and fix whatever is wrong with me!

Beyond Frustrated . . .

Back on February 23 the SpringHill Suites in Logan opened up. Most of you know I am the admin for the project managers who ran the construction of this. It was an exciting day for all of us, after 14 months, the hotel was finally open. On that day I was back and forth between the hotel and my office, we are in the same complex. That night my feet were exhausted, I thought to myself "WOW fat so we need to work on this a bit." I took my shoes off and my left foot instantly started to swell and bruise. I don't remember stepping wrong or hurting it in anyway, Troy insisted that it was the boots that I was wore. Whatever!

As we watched 24 that night my foot got more swollen by the minute. But once again I didn't think much of it, it would be fine in the morning. To add insult to injury the next morning we had ice rain and I fell not once but twice walking into work that day! GRRRR! I continued through the week nursing my ankle, but each night it kept getting more swollen. The weekend was awful and by the following Monday (March 2nd) I was loosing circulation in my foot, it was ice cold and white. I panic and called my orthopedic doctor who did my knee surgery a few years ago. No sense in seeing the redneck doc in Tremonton, go straight to the specialist.

So in the last two weeks I have had X-rays that show no broken bones, an MRI that shows pockets of fluid and so much swelling that my joints are started to leak due to the pressure, but really no other damage, I have been on a heavy dosage of steriods for seven days to shock my system and help the swelling, to no avail, and then had blood work done to see if I had gout, an infection or several other issues I can't pronounce, just to have the blood work come back as normal! Does this look NORMAL to you?

Now I am not a skinny girl, but I have always had cute ankles and this is NOT cute! So for the time being I am in a boot for the next three weeks to keep the pressure off of my ankle to try and control the swelling. I go back the first week in April to see what happens next. So now I am just telling everyone I have an alien disease because I am tired of the "are you freakin' kidding me" look everyone gives me when I tell them I don't know what I did. It takes special talent to trip on flat surfaces, and I have that special talent!

Kindergarten Round-up . . .

WOW! Where has the time gone? I can't believe it's already time for kindergarten. It seems like yesterday when Troy and I were sitting in the doc's off, right after mother's day to get confirmation I was pregnant after several years of trying and triple the dose of fertility pills. I blinked again and I was going into labor at Flying J with my cute friend Christie counting how long my contractions were! Now five years later, Hunter and I went this morning for his kindergarten testing. Hunter boy has been so excited for months, it was nice this morning to have him get right out of bed, he picked out his clothes last night, the morning went off without a hitch! LOL!

While I was filling out the paperwork they took Hunter. 15 minutes later he came running back with a cookie and a book. "Look mom I got a cookie and it's before lunch!" I looked at the teacher who brought him back expecting an update on Hunter and all she said was "thanks for coming in". Wait, what, that's it? She proceeded to tell me that if there was a problem with anything they would have come and talked to me. The school hasn't determined if they will have all day kindergarten yet again next year so hopefully mid-June or so we will know if Hunter will go to an am or pm class or my first choice, all day kindergarten.

As we were walking to the truck I asked Hunter how it went. He told me that he wrote his name, even used a lower case "e", which is huge right now because he always wants to write an "E". He did his shapes and colors, then goes "mom, they only had me count to 10 and I can count to 100." I just hugged him and told him I knew how smart he was and before long he could share that with his new teacher in August. He has learned the months of the year and knows he will start school in August, it's cute to hear him sing about it!
